Kangaroos, Mt Connor, and Outback Station
from Ayers Rock
- Highlights:
- 7 hour 4wd tour around rugged Mt Conner
- An opportunity to see native animals such as
kangaroos and lizards in the wild
- Includes stops at salt lakes, fossil site,
lookout and homestead ruins
- Champagne sunset
- Dinner at the homestead
Mt. Connor, the third of the great monoliths,
is 60 miles east of Uluru (Ayers Rock) and on
the western fringe of an outback cattle station,
Curtain Springs. Following Curtain Springs
station's Four Wheel Drive tracks, you will
discover vast salt lakes that are remnants of
ancient inland oceans, examine fossilized
remains of the oldest life forms on earth, and
experience Australia's rugged outback.
Travelling around Mt Connor, there is a
hidden side with a series of rugged gorges and
dams built for the cattle makes for a perfect
haven for small populations of Red Kangaroos and
Rock Wallabies.
Before the sunsets we reach the ruins of the
first homestead that sits in the shadow of the
imposing Mt Connor and watch changing colour in
the background and a rusty windmill churning
quietly, we toast the sunset with complimentary
champagne and wonder how lonely yet splendid it
is. Then in the gathering night we drive to
Curtin Springs, where in the kitchen built from
parts of the old homestead, we enjoy a
three-course dinner prepared by the station
cook, before returning to Ayers Rock Resort.
