Australia Melbourne Tour
Penguins,
Koalas and Wildlife Ecotour - Melbourne Tour
This fascinating experience takes you southeast of the city through the rich
Gippsland coastal region where Phillip Island is located..
Visit a boutique winery overlooking Westernport Bay hearing colourful
stories about explorers, sealers and whalers who settled this region.
Phillip Island is known as the wildlife island. Walk with your guide amongst
the treetops at the Koala Conservation Centre to see a protected koala
nature reserve bush land and wetlands.
Penguins come ashore each evening at dusk
from their ocean feeding grounds. The large penguin colony enters the beach
in groups and “walk and talk” loudly as they work their way into the dunes
where their burrow nests are situated. Boardwalks enable the visitor to gain
close contact with the penguins in the dune area. Enjoy a fish and chip
dinner at the Jetty Restaurant in the township of Cowes at Phillip Island.
Return to Melbourne inland, arriving late evening.
*Please note that
for a supplement we can now offer the Ultimate Penguin Experience. This
allows you onto a secluded beach with the Penguins waddling past you within
touching distance. Ask us for further details.

The Great Ocean Road and 12
Apostles - Melbourne Tour
Leaving Melbourne we head
westward over the Westgate Bridge and this bridge offers
awesome views of Melbourne's skyline then towards Geelong
and Torquay to where the Great Ocean Road starts and follow
its winding trail through the lush Otway rainforests, to the
breathtaking, windswept drama of the Shipwreck Coast.
Another highlight of the
day is a stop at Kennett River. In this area, high in the
trees is a colony of wild koalas. See these creatures in
their natural habitat, hanging from trees and looking after
their young, oblivious to their human onlookers.
A sumptuous lunch is served
at Apollo Bay before we make our way to the Shipwreck coast
area of the Great Ocean Road; our first stop, The Twelve
Apostles. These giant rock stacks soar from the swirling
waters of the Southern Ocean and are a central feature. The
dramatic and imposing limestone cliffs that are the backdrop
to the Apostles tower up to 300 feet, while the tallest of
the rock stacks is around 150 feet high.
Venturing further west we
arrive at Loch Ard Gorge. Your first view will be of
towering cliffs, sparkling blue-green sea and a small, sandy
beach. It’s hard to imagine that the drama of one of
Melbourne's region most tragic shipwrecks was played out at
this very spot more than 120 years ago, giving its name to
the gorge. Our guide will tell you the story and have you
totally engrossed and mesmerized.
Time permitting we get to
see another one of the amazing rock formations that dot this
coastline before heading inland through dairy farm country
on the way back to the city.
