New Zealand Rail tour is an eventful rail journey that allows you to discover the most magical scenery of New Zealand
by Rail. Explore the countryside's flora and fauna .
The New Zealand by Rail will take you from the cosmopolitan City of
Sails to the awe-inspiring beauty of Milford Sound.
Day 1 - Arrive Auckland
Welcome to Auckland,
New Zealand’s largest city, known as the 'City of
Sails' and begin the New
Zealand Rail Tour.
Day 2 - Auckland/Waitomo/Rotorua
Today travel to the Waitomo Caves where can take a guided tour of the famous Glowworm Grotto. Continue on to Rotorua for a Maori Hangi (a dinner/feast) and Maori Concert.
Day 3 - Rotorua Sightseeing
Experience the many varied Geothermal sights that Rotorua has to offer. Visit Te
PuiaThermal Reserve, before traveling to Rainbow Springs, with the Kiwi Encounter and Rainbow Farm Sheep Show. Enjoy an afternoon at leisure.
Day 4 - Rotorua/Wellington
Travel to the capital city of
Wellington (Seat-in-Coach option: coach to Otorohanga to connect with the Overlander Train to
Wellington - seasonal).
Day 5 – Wellington
Today is at leisure. Make time to visit 'Te Papa' the Museum of New Zealand. This Museum offers an opportunity to see the past, present and future of the island country, its people, and other inhabitants.
Day 6 - Wellington/Christchurch
Travel on the Inter-Islander ferry across Cook Strait and through Queen Charlotte Sound to Picton. Join the Tranz Coastal train (Seat-in-Coach only) to Christchurch, where you will be met and transferred to your hotel. (Here alter your vacation plan and one or two night stop in Kaikoura for some whale watching)
Day 7 – Christchurch
A day at leisure for you to enjoy Christchurch located in the South Island, New Zealand. Here you can enjoy the city center Hagley Park, swim with the dolphins or the Antarctic Center.
Christchurch. (Perhaps swim with the dolphins, take in the Antarctic center, or time to enjoy Hagley Park)
Day 8 - Christchurch/Mt Cook/Queenstown
Today travel by coach through the MacKenzie country, and view Lake Tekapo, Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park, Lindis Pass and the Kawarau Gorge before arriving in Queenstown, ‘the adventure capital New Zealand’.
Day 9 - Milford Sound Day Excursion
Travel by coach along the shores of Lake Wakatipu to Te Anau. From the Homer Tunnel emerge into the Cleddau Valley. Join your Milford Sound Red Boat Cruise for an unforgettable experience. Return to Queenstown. (Here you can alter to see Doubtful Sound or perhaps have an overnight cruise on either Sound)
Day 10 – Queenstown
A free day to enjoy the many activities offered in the Queenstown region. Jet Boat, whitewater rafting, Helicopter rides, Horse back riding, Lord of the Rings touring, or wine tours are here for you.
Day 11 - Queenstown/Franz Josef
Travel north today via Lakes Wanaka and Hawea. Enjoy the West Coast scenery through the Haast Pass and continue on to Franz Josef Village.
Day 12 - Franz Josef/Tranz Alpine Train/Christchurch
Travel to Greymouth and board the scenic Tranz Alpine train (Seat-in-Coach only). Travel across the Canterbury Plains to Christchurch. (If you like perhaps drop your car in Greymouth and still take the train to Christchurch.
and arrive into Christchurch by 6.00pm)
