Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrive Christchurch and begin this New Zealand
Self Drive Vacation Tour and this afternoon stroll through Hagley
Park Gardens, the Christchurch square, or visit the
Antarctic Centre.
Day 2: Catch the Tranz Alpine Scenic
Train to Greymouth then pick-up your rental car on this New
Zealand Self Drive Tour and enjoy a
Bed and Breakfast with its own beach within a native forest.
Day 3: See the limestone rocks that are formed and look
like pancakes, hence Pancake rocks, walk through the local
native National Park, or just enjoy this private beach.
Day 4: Travel to Fox Glacier and see the art stores of
Hokitika, Shantytown to see the life in the Gold rush days,
and the Franz Josef Glacier. Stay for 2 nights in the Fox
Glacier Bed and Breakfast or hotel.
Day 5: Enjoy a half day Fox Glacier Hike, or a helicopter
flight with Glacier landing.
Day 6: Travel to Queenstown region, but have your camera
ready for some photos stops. Enjoy this very scenic drive as the Haast pass takes you
through some picturesque river and mountainous scenery on
your New Zealand self drive tour.
Day 7: Enjoy this delightful town just outside of
Queenstown; Arrowtown is a nice alternative to Queenstown
for those wishing to be close yet still not far from touring
options.
Day 8: Today sightsee throughout the region, perhaps take
a wine tour and tasting, Four wheel drive seeing the Lord of
the Rings sights, jet boat ride on the Shot over, Kawarau or
Dart River, the later visit Mt Aspiring National park and
perhaps extension walk.
Day 9: Travel to Te Anau for an overnight cruise on
either Milford or Doubtful Sound.
Day 10: Return from your overnight cruise, visit the Te
Anau Glow
worm caves. This is an amazing and wondrous sight.
Day 11: Continue on the New Zealand Self Drive Vacation
to start on the Southern Scenic Route with your
drive to Invercargill and stay for 2 nights on a Farm Stay
New Zealand style.
Day 12: Enjoy the workings and animals on a New Zealand
southern region farm. Take a tour of this region to see New
Zealand sea life that makes this area home.
Day 13: Travel eastward towards still on the Southern
Scenic Route seeing isolated Beaches, a petrified forest,
and the natural native beach forests.
Day 14: Enjoy Catlins Forest Park and here you tour the
region with wildlife, hiking, and farming tours.
Day 15: Travel the remaining section of the Southern
Scenic Route to Dunedin.
Day 16: Discover the Albatross and Yellow-eyed Penguin
colonies, visit the Cadbury Factory or tour the city of
Dunedin. The Dunedin Gardens are nice to stroll around.
Day 17: Depart Dunedin and travel back home, with
wonderful memories and experiences from your vacation to New
Zealand.
