Costa Rica Rivers Tour: Pacuare River – Class III and IV – San Jose


Our Class III-IV whitewater rafting on the Pacuare will take you through a long gorge of tropical forest and primary rainforest, and past amazing waterfalls. A wide variety of birds and butterflies, hard to see mammals and reptiles are all part of our trip.

The Pacuare (pah KWAH ray) is the quintessential tropical river. Along its course lie several densely vegetated gorges which shelter jaguars, ocelots, monkeys, sloths, and an incredible variety of birds. Also found within these gorges is some of the best whitewater in all of Central America, ranging up to Class V in difficulty. The Pacuare is the only river in Costa Rica which contains these amenities, including virgin rain forest, while also being quite accessible. The lowland tropical forest here is remarkable for its luxuriant variety and the amazing abundance and diversity of wildlife found within it.

 

Trip of unsurpassed beauty, exuberant wildlife, and ravishing rapids, this is the quintessential tropical river. Along its course lie densely vegetated gorges, which shelter jaguars, ocelots, monkeys, sloth’s and an incredible variety of birds. One way drive time from San José is 3 1/2 hours. Includes transportation, rafting equipment, and professionally trained bilingual rafting guides; Time on river approximately 5 hours and the minimum age is 12 years old.

Suggestion of what to bring: Swimsuit or shorts; Sunscreen, sun visor cap; String or strap to secure your glasses; No jeans or flip flops. Tennis shoes, runners, or sandals with ankle straps. A Light rain jacket and/or polypropylene wool shirts for cool or rainy days. Cotton T-shirts for sunny days only (they make you colder when wet); Change of clothes.

Mountain Biking – San Jose

Enjoy a full day of Mountain Biking in the Cartago or Turrialba area. You will be able to explore the beautiful countryside as you ride your bikes. After the biking adventure; you return to your San Jose Hotel. Turrialba, Cartago is known for sweeping views of the Costa Rica countryside, the charming town of Turrialba, and views on a clear day to see Paos and Brava volcanoes in the distance.

Poas Volcano / Sarchi Oxcart Factory Tour

The Poás Volcano is one of the world's largest geysers with an awesome crater, over 1.5 km. wide! The volcano is active, but completely safe for viewing. This tour begins with a beautiful drive through the lush coffee plantations and flower farms of the area. In addition to the volcano, the Poás National Park is a 9,884-acre reserve with rich tropical vegetation and animal life.

The tour includes a hike through the surrounding forest that is teeming with typical plant life and exotic birds. The hike concludes at a restful, emerald green, tropical lagoon. After the visit to the Volcano, continue to Grecia, were will see the famous metal church, that has a rare and beautiful architecture.

Next, we will tour the fascinating craftsman factories of Sarchí; where they build the famous oxcarts of Costa Rica. Splendidly decorated and in various sizes, these oxcarts are treasured worldwide for their unique beauty. You will not want to leave Costa Rica without one!
